County goes after sign vandals By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Two
suspects have been arrested and charged with destroying Marshall County
road name signs after surveillance of the area, sheriff Kenny Dickerson
said. He said investigators in his department
are making every effort to catch suspects in the act of taking down
road signs, yield signs and stop signs. Citizens have been complaining
and reporting the destruction, and the problem has been long-standing,
according to the board of supervisors. The taxpayer is the one who has
to pay for replacement, $131 a pop for road name signs and about $85
each for traffic signs, not including labor costs. Full Story

Holly Springs Main Street design committee is pleading with business
owners to help take better care of the plants, although some are doing
a great job. This week, in preparation for winter
planting, Gwen Wyatt, committee chair, and Frances Underwood found dead
evergreens, and lots of planters have been misused as trash bins for
beer cans, whiskey bottles and cigarette butt disposal. Full Story

Police make several felony arrests Holly Springs police officers answered 85 calls last week, according to interim chief John Norman. The
calls included – disturbances, 6; funerals, 5; alarms, 17; larcenies,
2; accidents, 3; burglaries, 3; 911 hang-ups, 1; shots fired, 3;
assaults, 2; assists, 3; malicious mischief, 2; domestics, 3; robbery
1; ID theft or fraud, 3; and 31 miscellaneous calls. The dog catcher

Trick or treating Monday in City of Holly Springs Holly
Springs officials announce Monday, Oct. 31, Halloween Day, as the
official time for trick or treating in city neighborhoods. Young
children should be accompanied by adults that evening and everyone is
urged to enjoy Halloween but also be safe during all activities. Curfew
is set for 10 p.m.
Ballot issues surface By BARRY BURLESON Editor Last
week issues arose over the wording of the statewide initiatives being
offered for vote on the November 8 ballot. There was an announcement
that many counties would have to reprint ballots or add “inserts” after
absentee voting has already begun. Attorney
General Jim Hood said he believed the “fiscal analysis” or cost to
taxpayers for each of the initiatives should have been included on the
ballots, according to the state Constitution. Secretary of State
Delbert Hosemann, after reviewing applicable statutes, agreed. Full Story
