Community NewsPotts Camp News Dale Hollingsworth Potts Camp FD haunted house this weekend A
large crowd attended the wedding of Brittany Lynn Byrd and Ronald Wayne
Huffman Jr. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. at Temperance Hill Baptist
Church. Congratulations to them! We look forward
to the Hill Country Picnic held every year near Potts Camp! I can sit
on my porch and listen to the special music and also hear it indoor;
all night long. I am proud of my younger son, Dr.
Danny P. Hollingsworth, who was inaugurated as 12th president of
Piedmont College in Demorest, Ga., on Friday afternoon, Oct. 14. I’m
sorry I wasn’t able to attend. He and wife Elizabeth have three sons in
college, Luke, Lark and Jake. We welcome Thelma
Ford to our town! She lived in the country several miles from town with
her late husband, who died last year. She moved here near two
stepchildren. The Potts Camp fire station held a haunted house two weekends. Homecoming and Old Fashion Day was held at Potts Camp First Baptist Church on Oct. 23. No Sunday school was held. Reids’
Gift Church’s usher board sponsored a salad dinner last weekend. The
speaker was minister Kendrick Campbell and pastor Jerry Williams. Memories I’ll
never forget the Dixie Theater we had in our town after the war. A man
from Memphis brought one of the latest colored movies and showed it on
a large colored screeen on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. One day
my husband L.D. kept the children and let me go see “Gone With the
Wind” (four hours). Charles Burris was the young boy who operated the
projector and Willa Floyd sold the tickets. I was late that day and was looking for a seat when they called my name. I had won the door prize, $10. I was happy. Charles
bought a motorcycle with his money. One Sunday afternoon, he passed our
house really fast. My husband said, “He’s going to get killed,” and he
did that day. It was sad. He was the age of my sister and brother, Ann
and Lindy. We attended his funeral. |
