The
Potts Camp Cardinals, using Byhalia’s gridiron as their home field,
took on a persistent Union County team last Friday night and came away
with an impressive victory. Union won the toss
and elected to receive. The visitors gained 6 yards on their first play
from scrimmage. On the next play Broderick Montgomery went on a
45-plus-yard scamper. He came back and took a handoff from quarterback
D.J. Armstrong and went in standing up. The touchdown was capped with a
two-point pass play. Union County had struck first and it was 8-0. Full Story
Lions rally for big district win By BARRY BURLESON Editor H.W. Byers rallied with 24 unanswered points in the second half Friday night to win a crucial Region 1-1A game at Thrasher. The roaring Lions improved to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in district play with the 38-20 win. Full Story

Behind The Scoreboard By Claude Vinson SEC shines in BCS This
past weekend was week number seven in the SEC and, of course, in all
collegiate football. I threw that last part in because according to
persons not really enamored of the SEC, our admiration can become
pretty clouded at any part of the season. Even the harshest critics
have to admit that a lot of the chest-thumping which goes on in SEC

Marshall jr. high finishes 7-0 Before his
team’s season-opener versus Magnolia Heights, coach Keith Owens made a
spur-of-the-moment promise to his junior high Patriots. “I told them if they won them all, they could shave my head,” Owens said. “Believe me, they never forgot it.” The
Marshall Academy Patriots beat West Memphis (Ark.) Christian 48-14
Thursday at home to finish the season unbeaten at 7-0. At midfield
after the game, they gathered around their head coach and all took part

Byhalia Indians drop important road game to Winona Tigers By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor The
Byhalia Indians were on the road south last Friday to contest the
Winona Tigers in a game which carried some significance in the Region
3, District 2, 3A race for both teams. The winner would hold to the second seed for the upcoming playoffs in that district with two weeks left in the regular season. Full Story
 |  | White Oak Golf Scramble
The
16th Annual White Oak Classic Golf Scramble Fun-Raiser, to benefit the
Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce, was held Thursday, Sept. 29, at
Kirkwood National in Holly Springs. The tournament had two flights that
included a putting contest, closest to hole and longest drive. Beverage
tents were hosted by CLM Insurance Group, Trinity Mission Health &
Rehab of Great Oaks and Mid-South Ag Equipment. The golf committee
consisted of Bill Kinkade, Terry Griffith, Amber Reid, Jacob Norton and
Philip Woods. Over 50 door and raffle prizes were given away.
Mississippi District 52 Representative Tommy Woods and his wife Faye
provided a barbecue dinner for the golfers and volunteers. This event
benefits the mission of the Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce. The BACC
would like to thank Kirkwood, the golfers, volunteers, the sponsors and
contributors. Major sponsors for the tournament were Town of Byhalia,
Marshall County Board of Supervisors, Mid-South Ag Equipment, Champion
Awards, Citizens Bank, Hunter Fan, Trinity Mission Health and Rehab,
Griffith CPA Firm, Northcentral Electric Power Association and The
Rebel 95.3. The first-place winner for the first flight was Woods Farm
Supply team and the first-place winner for the second flight was First

Chase Carpenter became the first kicker or punter this season to be

Rodeo this Saturday The Deep South
Championship Rodeo finals will be held at the Marshall County
Fairgrounds, 1569 Hwy. 7 North, Holly Springs on Saturday, October 22. The
big event, produced by J Bar B Rodeo Co., begins at 7 p.m. Ticket
prices are $8 for adults, $6 for children, and ages 3 and under free.

First place in archery
Susan
Riles of Potts Camp competed in the 4-H Shooting Sports competition on
Saturday, April 30, in Blue Springs. Susan placed first in the Standard
Compound (female) Junior (10- and 11-year olds) Archery Competition
with a score of 123 out of a possible 150. She also received the
highest recognition level of Archer. Susan is pictured with Lemon
Phelps, Extension 4-H youth development agent for Marshall County. |
