Despite falling 28-14 to Southwest on October 6, Northwest Community College’s Chase Carpenter became the first kicker or punter this season to be named NJCAA Special Teams Player of the Week.
Carpenter is the second National Junior College Athletic Association Special Teams Player of the Week selection for Northwest this season, with sophomore transfer Lance Ray earning the honor in week one.
The freshman from Slayden (Marshall Academy) averaged 40.6 yards on his seven punts in the game, including three inside the 20-yard line and a career-long 52-yarder. He also averaged 61 yards on three kickoffs and connected on both extra points – a streak of eight consecutive made PATs overall.
The Rangers blanked Mississippi Delta 37-0 last Thursday night, Oct. 13, to improve to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the north division.
They will host Holmes this Saturday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. on the Senatobia campus for homecoming.
