Behind The Scoreboard By Claude Vinson Heat is on The heat is really being felt in the SEC and it is not solely centered on the play by play. Last
week the really glowing headlines were not extolling the exploits of
the SEC teams making their runs, but rather about the dissatisfaction
of some fans and their perceptions of how these runs were being made.
At least two area newspapers carried scathing reports which indicted
some college or universities’ leadership from athletic directors to
presidents. These were not some obscure ads buried among the gaggle of
one- or two-paragraph classifieds, these were full-page ads. They

Cardinals journeyed north to Tennessee Friday night and lost 35-20 to

MA ends season with loss at Manchester The Marshall Academy soccer squad ended its season Tuesday of last week with a 7-0 road loss at Manchester Academy. “We were outmatched but we did not play our best soccer either,” said coach Lance McGregor. Full Story
Lions ‘fight hard’ in loss By BARRY BURLESON Editor An out-manned H.W. Byers team had its chance to hang with district opponent Vardaman in the first half Friday night at home. But the Rams led 12-0 at the break and scored 23 points in the third quarter to batter the Lions 35-0. Full Story

Marshall Academy junior high football team left Indianola Academy with
an exciting 30-26 win over the Colonels. The Patriots raised their

Marshall Academy peewee football team hosted a jamboree Saturday, Sept.
17, at Patriot Field. The Patriots had a successful day, being

Indians fall at Lewisburg By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor The
Byhalia Indians faced their next-to-the-last game on their four-game
road swing last Friday when they visited the Lewisburg Patriots. The
Indians won the toss and elected to take the ball first. The Indians
didn’t waste any time in lighting up the big board. Andrey Collins took
a handoff from Markiese Rodgers and ran for six points. Devonte Norman
got the call next and scored the deuce. Byhalia was up 8-0 in a matter

Classic a year older

the Southern Heritage Classic came into its own at 21 last year then
the addition of this year’s offering only solidified the
tradition.
To
just say “tradition” is a meager way to describe a
stellar event which
has spanned two decades of providing an almost unmatchable weekend of
the highest grade of enjoyment and entertainment. Throngs of thousands
make the annual pilgrimage each year to bask in the activities

College game Saturday at park Shepherd
Technical College of Memphis, Tenn., will host its homecoming football
game versus Southeast Texas Tech in Holly Springs. Kickoff
is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Sam Coopwood Park. The park is
located on East Salem Avenue (Highway 4 East). Admission is $7 per
