MA ends season with loss at Manchester
The Marshall Academy soccer squad ended its season Tuesday of last week with a 7-0 road loss at Manchester Academy.
“We were outmatched but we did not play our best soccer either,” said coach Lance McGregor.
He said a smaller team numbers-wise hurt his Lady Patriots.
“The numbers game really caught up to us,” McGregor said. “Manchester did a nice job of making their passes and exploiting our missing players today.”
One Lady Patriot not playing at Manchester was senior Mayela Armendariz.
“They really attacked the area of the field where she would normally play and controlled possession until they found a point to attack,” he said.
“Our defense was really weak at times.”
He complimented the play of Lane Cunningham, who he said “did a really nice job considering how many shots they took,” plus M.C. Hutchens, Emma Elgin, Faith LaFever and Ashika Bhakta.
“To compete with a well balanced team like Manchester you really have to have everyone playing well,” McGregor said.
“You could also easily tell who their star was, and when a player demands the extra attention and is unselfish, then it can really create opportunities and they took advantage of those opportunities.”
The Lady Patriots ended the season without a victory.
