Yarborough Chapel Road resident was shot and killed at a Highway 310
residence Thursday, according to Marshall County Sheriff Kenny
Dickerson. He said officers were dispatched to
1760 Highway 310 in Laws Hill around 11 a.m. regarding a shooting
incident. When officers arrived, they found Lorenzo Gipson, 56, dead
with two gunshot wounds on the property of Andre Ramon Matthews, a
Memphis, Tenn., resident and owner of the property. Full Story

Mississippi Department of Education delivered its accountability

City of Holly Springs adopts new budget By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
Holly Springs Board of Aldermen recently adopted the new fiscal year
2011-2012 budget, set at $6,415,926, down from last year by $764,736. Mayor
Andre’ DeBerry said the budget was cut mostly by slicing back capital
expenditures for equipment, etc. There were few cuts in the operational
portion of the budget and the city provided some raises to bring parity
to employees working in the city with those working at the Holly
Springs Utility Department, he said. Full Story

Byhalia police go to 35 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 35 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 4;
miscellaneous, 10; escorts, 5; juveniles, 3; thefts, 2; disturbances,
1; domestic calls, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 1; fires, 3; burglaries,
1; and medical calls, 4. Byhalia police officers also made three arrests during the past week.
