Cards lose on road at Rossville By BARRY BURLESON Editor Coach Shane Stone said it’s “back to the drawing board” for his Potts Camp football team. The
Cardinals journeyed north to Tennessee Friday night and lost 35-20 to
Rossville Academy. Their season record went even at 3-3. “Defensively,
we’re struggling right now, and offensively, we shot ourselves in the
foot,” Stone said. “We’re not getting the job done.” The Cardinals fell behind 21-6 in the first quarter and cut it to 21-20 in the third quarter. “Then we were on the 4-yard line about to take the lead, and on fourth and 1, we fumbled the snap,” he said. Later
Potts Camp actually appeared to take the lead. Jamarquis Foster ran 20
yards to the end zone but it was called back for holding. “We
put together some long drives, going up and down the field, but miscues
at inopportune times killed us,” Coach Stone said. “We would get a flag
and go from third and two to third and seven.” Foster scored the Cardinals’ first touchdown on an 18-yard run. A pass try for the two was incomplete. Later
in the first half, Ben Bolden and Randy Love hooked up for a 17-yard
pass connection and six points. Foster carried for the two-point
conversion. Potts Camp trailed 21-14 at halftime. Then
in the third, the Cardinals got to within a point when Jordon Harris
carried for a 3-yard touchdown. The two-point attempt, another pass
try, was not successful. The Wolves scored twice more in the second half to win by 15. “I
felt our defense was we hung our hat on earlier in the season,” Stone
said. “Here lately, we’re just not making plays – whether it’s tackles
or defending the pass. “We will get back to practice this week and try to improve.” The
Cardinals will continue its stretch of road games this Friday, visiting
Middleton, Tenn., for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Potts Camp will then go to
Immanuel Christian on October 7. |
