H.W. Byers was in a familiar spot at halftime Thursday night. The Lions led a Region 1-Class 1A opponent 22-8, just as they had two weeks before. But
this time the final outcome was much different. They celebrated the
first district football win in school history, 36-8, over Houlka. The

Thigpen scored on a 2-yard run for the game’s only points. Then the
Hawks’ defense stopped Coahoma AHS four times inside the 3-yard line to

Indians defang Panthers By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor Two of Marshall County’s football teams traveled to the same location last Friday to contest different foes. The
Byhalia Indians went to Coahoma County to take on the Panthers of
Coahoma High School and the Holly Springs Hawks went to the same place

Behind The Scoreboard By Claude Vinson Playoff time The playoffs in the WNBA got into full swing over the weekend, having begun last Thursday night. The
four teams from each conference had been ordained by their seasonal
records with the matchups from the Eastern Conference being the Atlanta
Dream against the Connecticut Sun and the Indiana Fever versus the New
York Liberty. The Western Conference had representatives in the form of
the Minnesota Lynx squaring off against the San Antonio Silver Stars
and the Seattle Storm and the Phoenix Mercury. Full Story
Marshall girls going to North AA Tournament The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots will enter the North AA Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament this Saturday at Carrollton. They
wrapped up the regular season Tuesday of this week – playing at North
Delta with the winner taking first in District 1-AA and the loser

Jr. high Pats rout Rebels The Marshall Academy junior high football team had no trouble Thursday night in the land of the Rebels. The Patriots routed District 1-AA foe Carroll Academy 44-6 to improve to 3-0 on the season. Full Story
Cardinals come up short vs. Mustangs By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor The
Potts Camp Cardinals, using Byhalia field as their home venue and
coming off of two convincing victories, vied with the Mustangs of
Mantachie last Friday evening and lost by 10. The
Mustangs elected to receive and it went like this – pass, run over
center, pass and punt. Dustin Carroll was calling the signals and

Holly Springs Junior High seventh and eighth grade football team picked
a win in their first game of the season. The Indians defeated rival
Byhalia Junior High. The players are pictured after the big win with
