School threats probed By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Local,
state and federal law enforcement agents are investigating threats to
personnel at the Potts Camp High School campus, according to sheriff
Kenny Dickerson. He said one arrest has been
made in the incident and a cell phone was recovered that was believed
to have been used in one of the communications to the school. The campus was put on lockdown for several hours Monday while investigators and staff traced leads, the sheriff said. Other arrests are expected, he said. “This incident is still under investigation and we take it very seriously,” Dickerson said. “We
are asking anyone with information that leads to the arrest and
conviction of person(s) responsible for these threats to the school to
please call Crime Stoppers at 800-729-2169 or the sheriff’s office at
662-252-1311. All information will be kept in the strictest of
confidence.” In other news, the sheriff’s
department is also investigating a shooting incident that occurred in
the Roberts Chapel Road community over the weekend. Dickerson
said deputies responded to a call to a shooting in the 2000 block of
Roberts Chapel Road Sunday, Sept. 11, after 911 received a call.
Deputies found Tyrone Hampton with a gunshot wound to the left thigh,
he said. Deputies were informed the shooting suspect, Joshua McKinney,
30, of the 200 block of Dowdy Road in Lamar, had left the scene in a
blue, four-door sedan and was possibly driving toward Holly Springs. A
BOLO (be on the lookout) was sent out with the suspect information to
surrounding law enforcement agencies and at about 1 a.m. McKinney’s
vehicle was stopped on Highway 7 North near Brick and Tile Road.
McKinney was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault and
manifesting extreme indifference to human life, Dickerson said. A .380
caliber handgun and magazine were found in the vehicle. The victim was transported to The Memphis Med by ambulance. |
