ObituariesVicky Cougle Vicky Bennett Cougle, 48, died Sept. 4, 2011, at her home. She was the former court clerk for Town of Byhalia. Services
were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 6 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in
Belmont. Burial was in New Bethel Cemetery. Bro. Bryan Weems officiated. She
leaves two children, Megan Lynn Woods of Hernando, Brian Everett Woods
(Christy) of Byhalia; four sisters, Gale Rooker (Bobby), Judy Pruitt
(Robert), Teresa Bolton (Ronnie) and Melissa Wood (Duke); a brother,
Keith Gentry (Tanya); her father, Charlie Alvin Bennett; a
stepdaughter, Tasha Cougle; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers
were her nephews Jeff Rooker, Joel Rooker, Brad Gentry, Toby Allison,
Jeremy Allison, T.J. Allison and Rodney Bolton. Mildred T. Edwards Mildred
T. Edwards, 94, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 12, 2011, at her home. She
was a Methodist. She was the widow of Calvin Edwards and a native of
Marshall County. Graveside services were held at
11 a.m. on Sept. 14 at Hill Crest Cemetery. Rev. Milton Boyd

“Bud” Holbrook, 84, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 10, 2011, at
Christopher’s Personal Care Home. He was the widower of Billie Maxey
Holbrook. He was a member of First Baptist of Holly Springs,
superintendent of Parks and Recreation in Holly Springs, Army Air Force
veteran of World War II, a Mason and a past commander of the VFW. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 13 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. Danny Worsham officiated. He
leaves two daughters, Candace Logue of Vicksburg, Robin McNeill of
Holly Springs; a sister, Patsy Moody; seven grandchildren, Megan
Richard (Canon), Amanda Boone (Jonathan), Arielle Stallings (Nash),
Adam Logue (Felicia), Hannah McNeill, Bronwyn Clanton (Barrett), Max
McNeill; and five great-grandchildren, Aidan Dilley, Ella Kate Boone,
Kaden Logue, Gaines Stallings, Lily Logue. Pallbearers

Leach, 92, of Hickory Flat, died Sept. 7, 2011, at Graceland Care Home
in New Albany. She was the widow of Ben Leach, a member of Winburn
United Methodist and a cafeteria worker in Benton County School. Services
were held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 10 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Glenfield Cemetery in New Albany. Bro. Brownie Tohill
officiated. She leaves a son, Larry Leach of
Hickory Flat; two brothers, Collins Reed of Marion, Ark., Donald Reed

Lucille
Ayers Rooks, 89, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 5, 2011, at her home. She
was the widow of Richard Rooks, a member of the church mother’s board,
former member of Order of Eastern Star and former church usher. Services
were held at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 at Powell Chapel MB Church in Holly
Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Rev. Eddie Walker officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was
in charge of arrangements. She leaves two
daughters, Doril Sharp, Belinda Stinson, both of Holly Springs; seven
sons, Sylvester Rooks, Walter Rooks, Joe Rooks, George Thompson, all of
Holly Springs, Robert Rooks of St. Paul, Minn., Freddie Rooks of
Orlando, Fla., James Rooks of Franklin, La.; a brother, Luster Ayers of
Holly Springs; 39 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and nine
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by six children, Mary Montez, Milton Rooks, Clarence Rooks,
Martha Rooks, Mattie Rooks and Doris McDaniel. |
