A second focus group gathered at Holly Springs City Hall recently to provide citizen input into the formation of the new 20-year plan for the city. Consultant Bob Barber, who drafted the 1997 comprehensive plan for the city, said citizens did not have much input into that plan. Some suggestions gleaned from the focus groups will be folded in-to the new plan after a third focus group is held, he said. About 7,500 attend annual festival By SUE WATSON
The estimated attendance at the 12th annual Hummingbird Migration Celebration at Strawberry Plains Audubon Center in Holly Springs was about 7,500, down a tad from last year, according to center director Bubba Hubbard. He said 388 new Ruby-throated hummingbirds were banded – an outstanding crop of the tiny migratory bird species found this year in the Southeast. One bird was recaptured with a band by the Hummer Study Group this year. School threats probed By SUE WATSON Local, state and federal law enforcement agents are investigating threats to personnel at the Potts Camp High School campus, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson. Partners produce Case key holders By BARRY BURLESON Woodwork comes easy for 72-year-old Joe Hurdle. “I’ve been doing it since I was 10,” he said. “When I get an idea, anything’s possible.” About two years ago he walked into Booker Hardware in downtown Holly Springs with a piece of wood shaped like an old-fashioned skeleton key. It had hooks across the bottom for hanging keys. Police investigate burglaries Officers with the Holly Springs Police Department answered 108 calls last week and made one felony arrest, according to interim chief John Norman. Clydesdale going to Smithville By SUE WATSON This year The Clydesdale Christmas Store will be hitting the road to Smithville, the small town completely devastated by a tornado on April 27. The effort to assist families who have lost everything is a repeat of the Christmas Store that went to Waveland six years ago, according to store founders Brenda and Ronnie Luther. Hurricane Katrina wiped out that Gulf Coast community in August 2005.
