The Marshall Academy softball team moved into a tie atop the conference last week with a huge road win at Carroll. MA vs. Carroll The Lady Patriots came up with clutch hits and a strong pitching performance to down the Lady Rebels 9-2 August 30. The win pushed MA into a first place tie in District 1-AA with North Delta. The Benton County Buccaneers’ contest versus Potts Camp, which had been scheduled for Sam Coopwood Park in Holly Springs, was changed the day before to the H.W. Byers field. Patriots take care of business on long road trip By BARRY BURLESON There was a lot for coach Barrett Donahoe to like about his Marshall Academy Patriots’ most recent win. MA, in its longest road trip of the regular season, rocked the Immanuel Rams 48-12 Friday night at Steens. It was the first-ever football matchup between the two schools. Byers falls in OT to Seminoles By BARRY BURLESON H.W. Byers, playing its first district game since reviving football at the school in 2008, almost stunned tradition-rich Smithville Friday night. Hawks fall prey to Choctaws; Indians to visit Friday night By CLAUDE VINSON The Holly High Hawks and their second year head coach, Marcus Autry, were still seeking their first win of the season when they met the Choctaws from West Tallahatchie Friday evening at Sam Coopwood stadium. Lady Indians beat Pontotoc The Byhalia High School volleyball team picked up their first win of the season August 25 at home. The Lady Indians won the match 3-2 with scores of 15-25, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22 and 15-9. Indians lose to 5A Mustangs; Holly High next By BARRY BURLESON Markeith Washington wants to toughen up his Byhalia football team in pre-district competition. Friday night the Class 3A Indians took it on the chin, 42-7, to Class 5A Center Hill. Junior high Pats pound Kirk The Marshall Academy junior high football team cruised to its first district win of the season Thursday night. The Patriots built a 28-0 lead before Kirk put points on the board and went on to slam the Raiders 44-14. |
