Jr. high Pats beat Chiefs
The Marshall Academy junior high Patriots completed the school’s football sweep of Magnolia Heights.
Coach Keith Owens’ junior high squad crushed the Chiefs 36-0 Thursday night in its season opener, just six days after the varsity Patriots had beaten Magnolia Heights 36-13 to start their 2011 campaign.
The junior high Patriots, a Class AA team, scored early and often against the Class AAA Chiefs last week. Dakota Dailey had four of MA’s five touchdowns.
After the teams swapped fumbles to start the game, Marshall scored on a 34-yard, four-play drive. Dailey carried 5 yards for the touchdown. A try-for-two failed.
Later in the opening period, Dailey returned a punt 75 yards for six more points. Thomas Faulkenbery scored the two-pointer.
Dailey ran 24 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Devin McGreger carried for the two, and at the half, the Patriots led 22-0.
Marshall put the game on ice in the third when Dailey scored on a 31-yard run. Hunter Barringer carried for the two-point conversion.
The Patriots’ final points came when McGreger got loose and ran 37 yards for six. A try-for-two failed.
Leading the defense were Tucker Fant and McGreger with five tackles each and Wesley Bolden and Dailey with four each.
