The
Potts Camp Cardinals got their inaugural varsity football season off to
a great start with a surprising romp over county rival H.W. Byers. This
was a “home game” for the Cards, who had to change the venue to H.W.
Byers because their home field was not ready for opening day. Potts
Camp revived football at the school in 2009 and Byers in 2008. Full Story
Patriots roll past Chiefs By BARRY BURLESON Editor Marshall Academy wins over Magnolia Heights on the football field are rare. They’re even more difficult on the Senatobia campus. Washington, head coach of the Byhalia Indians, said he and the Indians
hadn’t planned on giving the visiting Tishomingo County Braves much of
a chance. “As has been the philosophy for this
season’s team during practice and pre-season – pound the ball on the
ground,” he said. “Through the middle and around both ends, we are a

Holly High falls to Coldwater By BARRY BURLESON Editor Unfortunately
for Holly Springs High School, the turning point in Friday night’s
season-opening loss was an injury to its quarterback. The
Hawks led 14-12 in the fourth quarter when senior Jaren King was hit
and rolled and dislocated his hip. Coldwater rallied for an 18-12 win,
and Holly High lost King for the season. Full Story

Bougard, Fayne perform well at national AAU event One
of the largest AAU youth track and field meets, with well over 12,700
athletes, took place at the Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans, La.,
July 30-August 6. Forty-one national records were broken during the course of eight days and 46 states competed including Puerto Rico. Not
only did the scorching heat soar, but National Elite Youth All
Americans’ Erica Bougard and Godfrey Fayne, both of Byhalia, gave

Lady Pats go 2-3 for week The Marshall Academy softball team began District 1-AA play last week with a win over Kirk and a loss to North Delta. They also went 1-2 in the Starkville Tournament. Full Story
MA soccer squad drops three The Marshall Academy soccer team fell 7-0 at home to Indianola Tuesday, Aug. 16. “In
the first half we were a little soft, especially on the wings, but in
the second half the girls started to play harder and started battling
