Jury returns guilty verdict By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Two
female suspects stood trial in U.S. Federal Court in Aberdeen last
week. It began Monday, Aug. 15, and ended with a jury conviction late
Monday, August 22. They were charged with the
robbery of the Bank of Holly Springs Slayden Branch in Mt. Pleasant on
May 19, 2010, and the robbery of the Citizens Branch Bank in Barton on
June 10 the same year. Starlet Kizer, 22 and
Angela Bryson Miller, 44, of 7764 Birdwood Drive, Memphis, Tenn., were
arrested in November last year in Memphis and extradited to Marshall
County to face charges of bank robbery. The jury found the defendants both guilty of the two counts of bank robbery, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson. Two
other suspects – Marcus Westbrook, 23, of 5965 East Point Cove Apt. 2,
Memphis, Tenn., and William Albright, 20, of the same address – were
arrested and charged with bank robbery. Westbrook and Albright were
charged with the robbery of the Slayden Bank. They pled guilty to those
charges, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson. The
fifth suspect, Brian Gerrard Gilliland, 20, of the 4000 block of
Katherine Lane, Memphis, Tenn., was also arrested and charged with
robbery of the Citizens Bank of Barton. He was arrested November 22,
2010, by U.S. Marshals and returned to Marshall County. Dickerson said
Gilliland also pled guilty to bank robbery. The three who pled guilty were not sentenced before the two women went to trial last week, he said. The
sheriff thanked his investigative team who worked alongside federal
agents to identify suspects believed responsible for the crimes and to
collect evidence for the prosecution. “Our
officers testified, along with FBI agents, who worked closely together
in a cooperative effort to collect evidence for prosecution of the
cases,” Dickerson said. “Hopefully, this will
send a message that we will do everything in our power to apprehend
criminals if they choose to come to Marshall County to commit acts of
violence or other illegal activity.” |
