Bougard, Fayne perform well at national AAU event
One of the largest AAU youth track and field meets, with well over 12,700 athletes, took place at the Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans, La., July 30-August 6.
Forty-one national records were broken during the course of eight days and 46 states competed including Puerto Rico.
Not only did the scorching heat soar, but National Elite Youth All Americans’ Erica Bougard and Godfrey Fayne, both of Byhalia, gave extraordinary performances.
Erica Bougard’s medals (Young Women Division) – 400 meter run, 54.09, second place, silver; long jump, 19-08, second place, silver; 4x400 relay, 3:46.71, fourth place, copper; heptathlon, 5,270, first place, gold.
She set a national record in the heptathlon, also receiving the Joel Ferrell Memorial Award for best performance in the multi-event with 700 athletes competing.
Godfrey Fayne’s medals (Young Men Division) – 1,500 meter run, 4:09.69, eighth place, copper; 2,000 meter steeple chase 6:30.59, third place, bronze.
