Obituaries

Eugene Bolden

Eugene Bolden, 65, of Lamar, died Aug. 13, 2011, at his home. He was the widower of Judy Bolden and a construction worker.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 16 at Clear Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Frank Feathers officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two sons, Ron Bolden (Karen) of Byhalia, Greg Bolden (Renee) of Red Banks; two brothers, Ralph Bolden of Lamar, Sidney Bolden of Byhalia; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Bolden; and a sister, Eva May Bolden.

Pallbearers were Johnny Walker, Terry Culver, Roger Allen, Jay Bolden, John L. Allen, Lewis Skelton, Winfred Allen and B.J. McQueen.

Lewis Anderson Nunnally Jr.

Lewis Anderson “Wine” Nunnally Jr., 61, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 10, 2011, in Holly Springs. He was a graduate of W.T. Sims High School and Northwest Community College and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam era.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 18 at Adolphus Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Charles Dooley will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two daughters, Jennifer Nunnally Williams of Jackson, Chalencia Nunnally of Holly Springs; five sisters, Ase Lee Nunnally, Robbie N. Zinn, Mattie Clayborn, Linda Malone, all of Holly Springs, Laura Ann Buford of Oxford; four brothers, Levi Balfour of Killeen, Tx., Roy Lee Jeffries, Larry Nunnally, Lewis Wicks, all of Holly Springs; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Nunnally; and a sister, Lillie Mae Alexander.

Joseph W. Phillips Jr.

Joseph W. Phillips Jr., 71, of Byhalia, died Aug. 12, 2011. He was the widower of Joyce Phillips, his wife of 51 years. He retired from Coors Brewery.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 16 at First Baptist Church of Byhalia. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his son, Allen Phillips of Byhalia; his daughter, Cathy Anderson of Olive Branch; his brother, Robert Phillips (Denise); his sister, Wavor Brown (Terry); four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Carrie Lee.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Byhalia.

Susie Lynn Stewart Riley

Susie Lynn Stewart Riley, 78, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died Aug. 5, 2011, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis. She was the widow of James Riley and a retired cook.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 13 at Strickland United Methodist Church in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Robert E. Jones officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a sister, Claudia Maggie Taylor of Memphis.

Glen Fredrick Sharp

Glen Fredrick Sharp, 72, of Lamar, died Aug. 8, 2011, at his home. He was a business owner and a farmer.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 11 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek Cemetery in Lamar. Bro. Jim Polk officiated.

He leaves his wife, Linda Sharp; three daughters, Anita Muncy of Lamar, Lorrie Vowell of McCool, Sheila Ferrara of Tampa, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Allyssabeth Vowell.

Memorials may be made to the Clear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Pallbearers were Tommy Curtis, Justin Vowell, Derrick Sharp, Son Vowell, Skip Ferrara, Vernon Butler. Honorary pallbearers were Josh Sharp, Jeremy Mason, Jim Brigance, Edward Munch, Joel Allen, Glenn Sexton and Kelly Thomas.

Joan Dianne Tapley

Joan Dianne Tapley, 63, of Tupelo, died Aug. 13, 2011, in Aberdeen. She was a clerical worker.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 15 at First Baptist Church of Potts Camp, where she was a member. Burial was in Potts Camp Cemetery. Bro. Paul Hicks and Bro. Jim Buchanan officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Lee Tapley; her mother, Etoyle Ash of Potts Camp; her son, Scott Wayne Leach (Leslee) of New Albany; her daughter, Tina Lynn Street (Billy) of Hickory Flat; three brothers, Johnny Ash of Holly Springs, Tommy Ash of Potts Camp; Clay Ash of Hickory Flat; five sisters, Sue Burchette of Hickory Flat, June Huey of Olive Branch, Carole Wadkins of Red Banks, Gale Stanton, Rita Kay Elliott of Hickory Flat; and eight grandchildren.

Poger Lee Walton

Poger Lee Walton, 60, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 4, 2011, at his home. He was a retired laborer with Fossett Paving Company.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 13 at Mt. Teamer CME Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in Soul Chapel Cemetery. Rev. Willie Harper officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves five sisters, Marble McNeil, Betty Jean Turnage, Mozella Walton, all of Holly Springs, Lillian Wagner of St. Louis, Mo., Opal Willis of Aurora, Ill.; and five brothers, Luther Walton of Holly Springs, Frank Walton of Hudsonville, Percy Walton of Byhalia, David Lee Walton, James Edward Walton, both of Chicago, Ill.

He was preceded in death by siblings Eugene Walton, Remela Walton and Lura Stinson.
