Coach Lance McGregor saw improvement in his Marshall Academy soccer team last week. MA-Lady Chiefs The Lady Patriots lost at Magnolia Heights 8-1 Monday, Aug. 8. “I
was really proud of the effort the girls gave in the game,” he said.
“We started the game with eight players and at one point we were down
to six but we had a lot of fight in us and actually played much better
than our first game (a 10-0 loss to Manchester).” MA had six shots on goal and M.C. Hutchens connected on a shot from about 30 yards out. “I’m
very proud of all the girls and how they are still trying to do things
the right way and not abandon what they’ve learned,” McGregor said.
“The young girls are working on the little things that will make us a
good team in the future. The improvement and attitude are hard to
match.” He said Faith Lafever “showed some nice
flashes of what can be expected from her” and Abby Sanders “did a
fantastic job in goal.” MA-Immanuel Back home for a Tuesday game, the MA girls fell 7-0 to Immanuel. “We played a lot tougher in this game,” McGregor said. “The great thing about these girls is they keep playing hard.” Hutchens,
Sanders and Audrey Poole all had good looks on shots, he said, but
either missed just wide or the ball was stopped by the goalie. “It’s been our best offensive game so far,” he said. MA-Bayou The Lady Patriots played the Lady Colts scoreless in the first half before losing 5-0 in Cleveland Thursday. “I
really felt we outplayed them in the first half but we wore down in the
second half,” McGregor said, “and they capitalized on some mistakes we
made.” “Our defense really played well,” he said. He praised the work of goalie Mayela Armendariz plus the defense of Emma Elgin, Lane Cunningham, Sanders and Ashika Bhakta. Schedule The Lady Pats hosted Indianola Tuesday of this week. They play a doubleheader Saturday at Central Hinds starting at 11 a.m. |
