Ennis Leroy Autry
Ennis Leroy Autry, 101, died Aug. 1, 2011, at Ashland Health and Rehab. He was the widower of Mildred Jewel Matlock, his wife of 55 years. He was a lifelong resident of Benton County. He served honorably in World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired from Mississippi State Highway Department in 1972.
Services were held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 2 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery in Ashland.
He leaves a son, Shirley Lee Autry; a brother, William Thomas “W.T.” Autry (Mildred) of Hickory Flat; and a sister, Josie Whitehead of Millington, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by sisters Rivers Dickerson, Clara Byrant, Ruth Moody and Grace Autry.

Curtis Lee Ayers
Curtis Lee Ayers, 71, of Chicago, Ill, formerly of Lamar, died July 22, 2011, at his home.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 30 at Hebron MB Church in Lamar, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Ronnie Franklin officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves three sisters, Lucy Hampton, Velma Thompson, both of Holly Springs, Gracie Beard of Chicago, Ill.; and a brother, Thelma Ayers of Lamar.
Carl Jasper Evans
Carl Jasper Evans, 50, of Holly Springs, died July 31, 2011, at his home. He was a member of Mt. Zion CME Church in Ashland, a trustee, usher. He served in Desert Storm with the U.S. Marines, and he was a plant manager with Griffin, Inc.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 6 at New Dimension Salt & Light Ministry. Burial will be in Mt. Zion CME Church Cemetery. Rev. Eric Shields will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Phyllis Denise Evans; three children, Andre Zinn of Atlanta, Ga., Leandrew Zinn, Angela ReQuita Zinn, both of Holly Springs; godson, Carlos Evans of Holly Springs; four sisters, Hattie Tate, Delorise Pore, both of Lamar, Leatrice Evans Baird of Holly Springs, Carolyn Annette Richmond of Richmond, Va.; and five grandchildren.
Andy Louis Payne
Andy Louis Payne, 50, of Oxford, formerly of Holly Springs, died July 28, 2011, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. He was disabled.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 4 at Mt. Sinai MB Church in Byhalia, where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a sister, Pecola Faulkner of Holly Springs; three brothers, Nathan Payne of Holly Springs, William Sidney Payne Jr. of Collierville, Tenn., Amos Payne of Gautier.
Rosa Louise Gresham Pierce
Rosa Louise Gresham Pierce, 91, of Byhalia, died July 29, 2011. She was the widow of Sam Pierce. She was the sister to Dorothy Bishop of Memphis, Edward Gresham of Memphis, S.B. “Tubby” Gresham of Holly Springs, Melvin Gresham of Ashland and the late Eugina Hudspeth, Pete Gresham and Choc Gresham. She was a longtime member of Elliston Baptist Church and later National Ave. and Hammondtown Baptist. She was a missionary to Jamaica twice in her late 60s.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 1 at Family Funeral Care in Memphis, Tenn.
She leaves three sons, Sam Pierce (Mary) of Piney Point; James “Bill” Pierce (Judy) of Olive Branch, David Pierce (Jean) of Memphis; two daughters, Ida Bostick of Memphis, Rosemary Joyner (Mickey) of Mt. Pleasant; 23 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Martha Medlin; a grandson, Robbie Bennet; and a great-granddaughter, Amanda Michelle Hillin.
Horace Rayford, 94, of Holly Springs, died July 27, 2011, at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab in Holly Springs. He was a member of Adolphus Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs and a retired farmer.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 2 at Smith Grove MB Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves four children, Horace Rayford Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., Myrick Walls of Napleville, Ill., Willie Powell, Patrick Jones, both of Holly Springs; two sisters, Easter Balfour of Aurora, Ill., M.T. Rayford of Memphis, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Powell.
Lee Ethel Richmond
Lee Ethel Richmond, 83, died July 21, 2011. She was the widow of Robert E. Richmond Sr., her husband of 64 years. She was a member of The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith for 60 years and attended Miracle Signs and Wonders in Byhalia.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 21 at St. Paul MB Church in Byhalia. Pastor Cheairs and Pastor Loveless officiated. Burial was in St. Paul M.B. Church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves six sons, Robert E. Richmond Jr., Elder Michael E. Richmond (Linda), Timothy Griffin (Janet), Fredrick A. Griffin (Katrina), Kenneth Griffin (Desiree), and Calvin Richmond; three daughters, Diane Griffin, Sylvia M. Griffin, Pamela Hines (Stephen); seven brothers, AJ Sessom, JB Sessom, Joseph Sessom, Sidney Sessom, MC Sessom, Morris Sessom, Kenneth Sessom; two sisters, Allie Bell Pounders, Wilma Brown; 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Willie Adkins, Lula Sessom; and a daughter, Annie Ree Gant.
Windell Lee Whitson
Windell Lee Whitson, 65, of Slayden, died July 23, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Southaven.
Services were held on July 27 at Twin Oaks Funeral Home Chapel in Southaven. Pastor Chuck Woods of the Olive Branch Seventh Day Adventist Church officiated.
He leaves three children, Michael Lee Whitson, Shelley Whitson Stern, Brian Lee Whitson; his sister, Maxine Pressley; and three grandchildren.
The family asks that donations be sent to the Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and a sister.
