Ten incumbents reclaimed their Marshall County positions during the Democratic Primary Election Tuesday. Unofficial press-time totals, with all 24 precincts reporting plus absentee ballots, were announced around 11:30 p.m. Aldermen overrule zoning By SUE WATSON The Holly Springs Board of Aldermen took up a concern with the public works director, fire chief and zoning administrator at the July 19 meeting. Aldermen voted to overrule the approval of the Planning Commission Board for plans for outside events behind the United Center – events such as concerts and car shows. Kilgore honored for 39 years service By SUE WATSON The Marshall County School District honored Marvia Kilgore recently on her retirement as director of special education, ending 39 years of service to the students. She served 29 years with the county and another eight years with the Holly Springs School District. Waterford P.O. on possible closure list By SUE WATSON The only post office in Marshall County on the United States Postal Service’s study list for possible closings is the one in Waterford. The post offices at Waterford, Michigan City, Dumas, Tiplersville and Etta are among 61 mostly rural Mississippi offices that will be studied for possible closure in this four-county area (Marshall, Benton, Tippah and Union).
Holly Springs police respond to shoplifting, assault The Holly Springs Police Department answered a variety of calls for the week, according to interim chief John Norman. Supervisors hold off on Beale bridge By SUE WATSON State Aid engineers may recommend the board of supervisors reject a bid on replacing a bridge on Beale Road because it came in so high and two companies did not bid. County engineer Larry Britt said, after talks with State Aid engineer Brooks Miller with the Mississippi Department of Transportation, he may recommend keeping the sole bid under advisement.
