Humane Society plans August 5 fund-raiser
The Marshall County Humane Society will sponsors its “Dog Days of Summer 2011 - Live and Silent Auction” fund-raiser on Friday, Aug. 5.
It will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the VFW in Holly Springs.
Lots of great auction items will be available. Everyone is urged to attend.

House, Burnside up Thursday with blues
Last Thursday’s Bikers Night/Blues Alley was called off due to rain but this Thursday the event is reset with the Davide House Band and Duwayne Burnside confirmed to play the blues, according to Rebecca Bourgeois, executive director of Main Street.
Bikers line up at 6 p.m. on the north side of the courthouse. Music begins at 6:30 p.m. in Blues Alley.
More food and beverage vendors are expected this week. Bring your lawn chairs, get comfortable and enjoy historic downtown Holly Springs at its best.
Bikers and Blues, sponsored by Holly Springs Main Street, will continue every Thursday through September 29.
Fannie Lampley is serving as event coordinator this year, while Andy McMillon is the chairman of the board of directors of Main Street.
Byhalia police officers respond to 30 calls
The Byhalia Police Department responded to 30 calls during the past week.
Chief Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 6; miscellaneous, 11; escorts, 3; assists, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 1; burglaries, 1; medical, 7.
Byhalia police officers made four arrests during the past week.
Byhalia Elementary sets Meet the Teachers
Parents and students are invited to attend Meet the Teacher and Bring Your Supplies Night at Byhalia Elementary School, Monday, Aug. 8.
Teachers and staff will be available to greet parents and students from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Please bring your child’s school supplies during this time to avoid congestion and confusion on August 10. School supply lists may be picked up at the school, at some local retailers and are also available online at bes.marshallcountysd.org.
