I’m blessed to have extended family in several cities. They come through various places I’ve worked.
Sunday, I drove to Red Bay, Ala., for a retirement reception. LaVale Mills, publisher of the weekly newspaper there, retired after a 25-year career in the newspaper business, 18 of those as publisher in Red Bay.

Quilts of Gee’s Bend exhibit
I wonder what the quilters of Gee’s Bend think about all the “things” that their quilting inspired? I really hope they’re pleased with all the “stuff.”
I get several (ha ha ha -- “several” is a real laugh!) quilting catalogs and the latest bunch have all featured some sort of “Gee’s Bend” kits, fabric, etc.

Holidays, while fun, often lead to chaos
Are you one of those people who are glad when the holidays are finally over? I am. I do not imply that either you or I am so churlish as to resist all times of celebration and gladness, but I like a routine!

Petition against parole:
A few weeks ago, my aunt, Monet Bell Autry, wrote a letter to the editor asking local churches, organizations, business owners, employees, friends, law enforcement, politicians, and citizens of Marshall County to contact the Mississippi Parole Board petitioning for the denial of parole for Bart Mease.
