Patriots start practice Monday By BARRY BURLESON Editor Temperatures are near 100 these days, and with the heat comes the start of high school football practice. Marshall
Academy will be the first school to take to the practice field. The
Patriots begin two-a-day drills next Monday, July 25, at 7 a.m. and 6
p.m. as new coach Barrett Donahoe and his squad goes to work early
morning and again early evening when temperatures are not at their
highest. Public schools will follow the next
week. Byhalia, Potts Camp, Byers and Holly Springs start football
practice on Monday, Aug. 1. The Patriots will
play in a jamboree at North Delta School in Batesville on Thursday,
Aug. 11. They will kick off the regular season on Friday, Aug. 19, at
Magnolia Heights in Senatobia. The Indians,
coached by Markeith Washington, will host a jamboree on Friday, Aug.
12, and will face Tunica Rosa Fort at 6 p.m. They will kick off the
season at home versus Tishomingo County on Friday, Aug. 19. Coach
Marcus Autry’s Hawks will play in a jamboree at Corinth on Friday, Aug.
12. They will open the season at home versus Coldwater on Friday, Aug.
19. Coach Shane Stone’s Cardinals will play in a
jamboree Saturday, Aug. 13, at Ole Miss. Their opponent will be Houlka.
A kickoff time has not yet been announced. Then a
highlight of week one of the 2011 season will be a match-up Friday,
Aug. 19, between Marshall County rivals Potts Camp and H.W. Byers,
coached by James Kimbrough. The game is scheduled for Potts Camp, where
a new field is under construction. |
