Byhalia picks veteran coach for basketball

For the fourth time in five years, Byhalia has a new boys basketball coach.

Directing the Indian attack next season will be Todd Hutchinson, 47, a veteran of the coaching wars who has plenty of playoff experience.

Football camp July 9

The first annual Lester/Rice Youth Football Camp will be held Saturday, July 9, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sam Coopwood Park in Holly Springs.

Marshall football camp

Marshall Academy hosted a football camp June 13-16 for second through seventh graders. The camp was led by new head coach Barrett Donahoe with the help of other members of his staff and some varsity Patriots. It focused on fundamentals. First at June Jam

The Terminators, an 11-year-old AAA competitive team with players from Marshall and DeSoto counties, won first place at the Southaven June Jam. Fourteen teams competed in the tournament. The Terminators went 5-0, defeating Mustang Baseball 8-7 for the championship. The team is currently number one in the state and fifth in the nation, according to USSSA standings. Local players are (front and center) Tyler Bolden and Juston Mask.

Summer work

Marshall Academy is playing some summer league games in June as coach Bart Jenkins gets an early look at next season’s squad. Chesley Hurdle is pictured on the mound for the Patriots recently versus Center Hill. MA is scheduled to play Water Valley at home Thursday.

On June 7, Holly Springs residents Juston Mask and Tyler Bolden had the chance to see what it feels like to be a professional basketball player for a day.
