The
Byhalia Clydesdale Festival got off to a wet and muddy start but by all
accounts was successful in attendance and fun, according to Ronnie
Luther. He and his wife Brenda organized the Clydesdale Christmas Store to provide toys and clothes for children of needy families. Thursday
night was rained out about an hour after opening, he said. But before
the storm clouds swept in, the evening was stacking up to be one of the
better attended Thursday nights in the festival’s history. Full Story
Robbery suspect arrested in county By SUE WATSON Staff Writer An
Oxford man was arrested Thursday on Skating Rink Road after he
allegedly fled the scene of two armed robberies in Southaven and shot a
gun near a Mexican restaurant in Byhalia. The arrest was made by officers with the Byhalia Police Department and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Full Story
Bids come in on Ash/7 intersection By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Four
construction companies proffered bids for the construction of the
intersection at J.M. Ash Drive at Highway 7 South near U.S. 78. One
company failed to complete the application and the bid was not read. Other
bids, opened at the Marshall County Board of Supervisors meeting June
13, included the low bid of $822,998.21 from Union Construction Company
at Etta; mid-range bid of $829,530.64 from Bain & Sons in Holly
Springs; and a high bid of $911,618.49 from Endevco of Oxford. Full Story
Brother to donate portion of his liver By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Thirty-year-old
Jonathan Nichols of Byhalia is to be married to Megan Tate of Higdon
Road Saturday at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Potts Camp. On
July 18, the groom is scheduled to have surgery to donate a portion of
his liver to his brother, Jeffrey, who needs a new liver. Jeffrey,
23, has been in trouble with leukemia and now with liver damage due to
chemotherapy treatments to knock out his T-cell leukemia. Surgery for
both men will take place at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Full Story
Annual picnic Friday, Saturday The annual North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic will be held June 24-25 at Foxfire Ranch, 1465 Old Oxford Road, Waterford. This
year’s festival lineup features Hill Country musicians Kenny Brown,
Duwayne Burnside, The North Mississippi Allstars, Duoluco, Jimbo
Mathus, Rising Star Fife and Drum Band and many more. The two-day
festival takes place in the rolling hills of Marshall County and will
run from 4 p.m. on Friday, June 24, until after midnight on Saturday,

Fire hydrant mishap

Woodward was being flushed by Holly Springs firemen Thursday when the
shutoff valve at the plug broke and they were unable to turn off the
water. The problem began between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Thursday and
the valve was still spewing water at 3 p.m. as crews worked fervently
to find the buried shut-off valve in the main line. |
Byhalia police officers go to 43 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 43 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 10;
miscellaneous, 13; escorts, 3; juveniles, 2; disturbances, 1; motor
vehicle accidents, 1; fires, 3; and medical, 10. Byhalia police officers also made six arrests during the past week, according to Chief Looney.
Holly Springs officers respond to larcenies, mischief, more The Holly Springs Police Department responded to 94 calls last week. The
calls included – stolen auto, 1; disturbances, 11; alarm calls, 4;
domestics, 2; larcenies, 8; accidents, 5; burglaries, 1; auto
burglaries, 1; fraud, 2; malicious mischief, 1; funerals, 2; shots

Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce announces the second quarterly
