November 1, 2006, tendered his resignation at the June 7 board of

Festival this week in Byhalia By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The annual Byhalia Clydesdale Festival, to raise money for the Clydesdale Christmas Store, is Thursday through Saturday. The
carnival begins at 5 p.m. daily. Thursday night is wrist-band night
when a person can purchase a wrist band and ride all night with no
further charge. Thursday night’s entertainment will feature an Elvis
tribute and Elvis impersonators plus lots of friends of “the King” with

‘Cancer does
not sleep’
• County Relay almost reaches goal

The
Marshall County Relay For Life raised close to $60,000 to assist the
American Cancer Society in its fight to save lives from cancer.
The
annual Relay, a time of celebration and remembrance, began last Friday
at 6 p.m. and ended Saturday at 6 a.m. at Sam Coopwood Park. Full Story
Library director retiring this month By SUE WATSON Staff Writer County
library director Diane Schule is retiring June 30, 15 years to the day
when she took over as head of the Marshall County Library System. Co-workers say she has been wonderful to work with. Jean
Algee, who retired in May as assistant librarian and who had served as
interim director several times, praised Schule for her management style
and as a person. She said she has enjoyed working for Schule. Full Story
Commissioner updates Holly Springs Rotary on scams, cell coverage By BARRY BURLESON Editor Scams,
rate incentives for small businesses and lack of cell phone coverage in
rural areas were just a few topics Brandon Presley focused on in a
visit to the Holly Springs Rotary Club. The
public commissioner for the Northern District of the State of
Mississippi said his office has been successful in going after

Police make three felony arrests The Holly Springs Police Department reminds residents that June is the month to renew dog license tags. Dog owners are asked to call 662-252-2122 and request a meeting time with Callie Spight, he said. Police made three felony arrests last week, chief Robert Pearson said. Full Story
Byhalia police go to 40 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 40 calls during the past week. Chief

miscellaneous, 9; escorts, 4; juveniles, 2; disturbances, 1; domestic,
3; animals, 5; motor vehicle accidents, 2; fires, 4; medical, 4. Byhalia police officers also made nine arrests during the past week.
High speed Internet linking schools By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Workers
are laying fiber optic cable in the Holly Springs area that will tie
into a loop connecting Tupelo, Corinth, Highway 72, and back to Oxford,
according to Don Randolph, superintendent of the Marshall County School

Public hearing
Marshall County’s Hazard Mitigation Task Force held an
official public hearing in May to answer any questions regarding the plan to address natural and man-made disasters.
