Festival this week in Byhalia By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The annual Byhalia Clydesdale Festival, to raise money for the Clydesdale Christmas Store, is Thursday through Saturday. The
carnival begins at 5 p.m. daily. Thursday night is wrist-band night
when a person can purchase a wrist band and ride all night with no
further charge. Thursday night’s entertainment will feature an Elvis
tribute and Elvis impersonators plus lots of friends of “the King” with
book signings. Friday
night music will include Eddie L. Smith and Robby Turner. The J Bar B
Championship Rodeo is also set for Friday night. Saturday
night there will be a political rally and second rodeo provided by
Marshall County’s J Bar B Ranch and the Deep South Championship Rodeo
Association. Saturday night’s headliner band is Dr. Zarr and The
Original Funk Monsters, a nationally-acclaimed band that plays popular
’80s music and dresses for the period. The group played in front of
50,000 people at the Gulf Shores Shrimp Festival last year. Free
parking every night will be provided by the Byhalia Lions Club and the
Christmas Store. The Byhalia Future Farmers of America will help direct
parking. The Clydesdale Christmas Store,
organized by Ronnie and Brenda Luther, is in its 18th year and has
raised approximately $1.6 million in donations for needy families at
Christmastime. The Clydesdale Store has
provided toys and clothing for children of needy families and the
elderly, gifts and dinner for Mississippi National Guard families, and
provides support for fund-raisers for sick children, such as those who
go to St. Jude Hospital for treatments. |
