OpinionFielder’s Choice Joy of parenthood I heard many references to “time flies” in May. Early in the month, I was at college, helping Emma move out of her dormitory for the summer. Close to Nowhere Decrepit or stupid? How do you describe yourself? Sometimes, in my own opinion, I think I’m OK. Then, there come those days when I think I never use my brain at all. I realize, sometimes, that since I’ve aged, I’m not quite as “spry” as I used to be. I just don’t realize it enough! Flood insurance reforms are necessary U.S. Senator Nearly 5.6 million National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policies were in effect nationwide last year, but the program will expire on September 30, 2011, unless an agreement can be reached to extend it. Homeowners on the Gulf Coast depend on the NFIP to make them whole if flooding from a hurricane destroys their property. Last week, I introduced the Consumer Option for an Alternative System to Allocate Losses (COASTAL) Act, S. 1091, which would make needed reforms and reauthorize the NFIP for five years. Letter To The Editor Thank you I hope you can run this note. I was a volunteer at the Sacred Heart Mission in Walls. The reason this is a thank you is one of my jobs was helping in Holly Springs. I went with Elvina to visit home-bound people and I can honestly say the people of Holly Springs are the nicest I have ever met. The high point for me was my last day. I was blessed to be taken to Annie’s at 198 Memphis St. As I am a Florida transplant from New York but as I have been in Florida for 40 years, I have come to love Southern food. Well, in my 63 years I can honestly say that the fried chicken, catfish and the ribs are outstanding. To all Mississippi, you will be in my daily prayers. May God bless you all and go to Annie’s for the best meal ever. Oh, the desserts are to die for.
