Cayce Fire Department honors Sheriff Dickerson 
Sheriff
Kenny Dickerson was given the year 2010 Citizen of the Year award by
the board of directors of the Cayce Fire Department May 2 at their
annual meeting. Each year the fire department selects someone who has
excelled in his profession. Ruth Van Landingham,
in presenting the award to the sheriff, said, “This is inappreciation
for your many years of exemplary service and as sheriff of Marshall
County, and for your many humanitarian deeds to all the people of our
great county throughout your tenure of public service.” Dickerson
was also honored by the Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce several years
ago as Leader of the Year in 2007. Last year, he was selected to
receive the Criminal Justice Legal Studies Department of the University
of Mississippi annual award. The annual Lifetime Achievement Award in
law enforcement is presented yearly to someone who has achieved
excellence in the field of criminal law enforcement. He was guest of
honor at the banquet following the award where he gave a presentation.
Dickerson has served 40 years in law enforcement, including about 26
years with the Mississippi Highway Patrol and 16 years as sheriff of
Marshall County. He is a graduate of the 137th season FBI National Academy held in 1984. Dickerson
was also one of the highest decorated officers of the Mississippi
Highway Patrol in year 1973 for bravery and exemplary service in the
line of duty. He received many concurrent resolutions from the
Mississippi House and Senate, as well as from former United States
President Richard Nixon. He was awarded the Outstanding Mississippian
the same year from Gov. Bill Waller. |
