Potts Camp drops two to Rebels
By BARRY BURLESON
Potts Camp’s short road trip east on Highway 78 Tuesday night, Jan. 4, resulted in a pair of losses to rival Hickory Flat.
The Cardinals dropped a 77-60 decision and the Lady Cards fell 60-40.
Coach Shawn Holtz’s Potts Camp boys stayed even with the Rebels in the first half. The contest was knotted at 28 at the break.
But the third quarter was the difference. That’s when Hickory Flat went on a huge 27-8 run and improved its record to 17-4.
Top point producers for Potts Camp were Javaughn Jones with 16 and Randy Love with 11.
Five Rebels scored in double digits – Anthony Tucker with 21, Michael Penilton with 17 and Timothy Tatum, Tyler Peters and Jamerson Kizer with 10 each. Tucker also had 10 rebounds.
Coach Tana Miller said her Potts Camp girls had “a rough night” in neighboring Benton County. They lost by 20 after trailing 32-10 at halftime.
“We were stagnant on offense,” Miller said. “We could not get anything going. Our shots were not falling.”
The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Cardinals 16-3 in the second period and all three of Potts Camp’s points came from the free-throw stripe.
Hayley Davis, who played despite being sick, finished with 15 points for the Lady Cards.
Leading Hickory Flat in scoring were Amber Thompson with 14, Shalonda Reynolds with 13 and Kadejar Moore with 10.
