Burton Jr., 61, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 6, 2011, at Williams
Medical Clinic. He was the widower of Perlia Johnson Burton, a member
of Pleasant Grove MB Church, a U.S. Army veteran and a disabled
maintenance worker with MI College Homes. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 11 at Anderson Chapel CME Church. Burial
was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F.
Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He
leaves two children, Dwayne Burton, Darrius Collins, both of Holly
Springs; two stepchildren, Pamela Taylor, Terence Malone, both of Holly
Springs; his mother, Lula M. Burton of Holly Springs; a brother, Edwin
Burton of Holly Springs and four grandchildren. Lucy Mae Hurdle Devore Lucy
Mae Hurdle Devore, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, died Dec. 25, 2010, at
Christopher’s in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Luke Devore, her
husband of 65 years. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. She
leaves her daughter, Marie Palmer of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Rubye
Nelson of Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Henry Devore. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 2361 Taska Road, Red Banks, MS 38661. Pallbearers
were Mark Palmer, Matthew Palmer, Eric Palmer, Kendall Pierce, Jack

Vershay Faulkner, 28, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 6, 2011, at Alliance
HealthCare System. She was a former member of Pleasant Grove MB Church
and a member of the choir, and a unit secretary at St. Francis Hospital
in Memphis, Tenn. Services will be held at 1 p.m.
on Jan. 12 at Kimbrough Chapel MB Church, where she was a member.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. J.W. Smith Jr. will

“Dock Daddy” James, 100, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 6, 2011 at
Alliance HealthCare System. He was a retired self-employed farmer and a
member of Mt. Gilead CME Church where he was a church steward. He was
the widower of Maeliza Jones James. Visitation
will be on Jan. 13, 2-7 p.m. and services will be held at 1 p.m. on
Jan. 14 at Chulahoma MB Church. Rev. Charles Richmond will officiate.

M. Faulkner Jeffries, 64, of Aurora, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs,
died Dec. 28, 2010, at Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora. She was
employed with Dial Corporation for 33 years. Services were held at 11
a.m. on Jan. 8 at Smith Grove MB Church. Burial was in the church

arrangements. She leaves her husband of 45 years,
Grant Jeffries; two sons, Rickey Jeffries, Clay Jeffries, both of
Aurora; four sisters, Morstine Vaughn, Celestine Faulkner, both of
Holly Springs, Ellen Jean Smith of Atlanta, Ga., Minnie Harris of
Chicago, Ill.; and a brother, Frank Faulkner Jr. of California. Charlene H. Lane Charlene
H. Lane, 68, died Dec. 7, 2010. She was the widow of George Lane and a
minister of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Services were held at 11 a.m. on
Dec. 18 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Burial was in New Park Cemetery
in Memphis, Tenn. Dr. James L. Netters, senior pastor, officiated. M.J.
Edwards Funeral Homes of Memphis was in charge of arrangements. She
leaves her son, Darryl Cooley of Columbia, S.C.; five sisters,
Ernestine Hamilton of Waterford, Yolande Bunting, Nelthia Hinton,
Salillia Phillips, Deirdre Chaney, all of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers,
Mose Hamilton of Chicago, Ill., Thomas Bunting of Memphis; a
stepbrother, Orlanda Carridine of Conway, Ark.; and one grandson. Pallbearers

A. Massengill Sr., 85, of Hickory Flat, died Jan. 6, 2011, at St.
Frances Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a farmer and a retired
supervisor of Benton County. Services were held
at 1 p.m. On Jan. 8 at Flat Rock Baptist Church, where he was a member
and deacon for more than 40 years. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Oldell Wilson Shaw, 81, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 4, 2011, at
Collierville Baptist in Collierville, Tenn. She was the widow of Marvin
Shaw and her first husband and father of her children, Walter Wilson,
and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 6 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. Wilson and Bro. James Pinkerton

Anthony Wilson; grandson, Stacey Wilson; granddaughter, Brandy Wilson;
sisters, Versie McClure, and Mary Lou Dodson. She
