appear headed to runoff for transportation commissioner John Caldwell and Mike Tagert are advancing to a Tuesday, Feb. 1, runoff for Northern District transportation commissioner. Unofficial totals from Tuesday’s special election, with 627 of 628 precincts reporting, showed Caldwell leading the seven-man field with 10,660 votes (21 percent). Marshall County residents woke up to a winter wonderland Monday, following a night of snow that dumped from four to as much as 11 inches across the area. “Mister Winter” began his sweep northward at the southernmost edge of the county at Cornersville, starting with sleet at around 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, according to county administrator Larry Hall. That began quickly changing to snow as he made his way to the county road and bridge warehouse. Voter fraud case ends with sentencing of last defendant The last of 16 defendants has been sentenced for his role in the Benton County voter fraud case, attorney general Jim Hood announced Tuesday. David Massey, 40, of Hickory Flat, was indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit voter fraud and three counts of voter fraud. He entered an open plea before Benton County Circuit Court
Holly Springs police make three arrests, go to many calls The Holly Springs Police Department reported three felony arrests and a total of 76 calls for the week. Officers answered 42 miscellaneous calls, nine disturbance calls, one assault, 11 alarms, one vandalism, two larceny, two burglary, two accidents, and one welfare check call, according to chief Robert Pearson. They assisted with five funerals. Byhalia officers go to 19 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 19 calls last week. Chief Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 3; miscellaneous, 2; escorts, 3; juveniles, 1; thefts, 1; disturbance, 1; domestic, 2; assists, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 2; fires, 2; and medical, 1. Byhalia police also made eight arrests during the past week. |
