Spring football drills underway By BARRY BURLESON Editor Football coaches are trying to get in a few days of spring practice as the school year winds down. Coach
Marcus Autry at Holly Springs High School said his Hawks will wrap up
spring drills with a spring game at Coldwater this Friday night, May 13. “Our
main focus this spring has been on finishing – finishing drills and
finishing ball games,” said Autry, who will enter his second season at
the helm of the Hawks. At Byhalia, coach Markeith
Washington is also putting his Indians through some spring workouts.
They will visit Tunica Rosa Fort on Thursday, May 19, for a spring game. Coach Shane Stone said Monday his Potts Camp football squad has finished one week of spring practice. “We’re
working on a lot of fundamentals,” he said. “We’re focusing on two
different offensive formations this spring – keeping it pretty simple.” Potts Camp will play Strayhorn and Mantachie in a spring jamboree at Mantachie on Thursday evening, May 19. Coach
James Kimbrough at H.W. Byers said his Lions will not play a spring
game but just concentrate on fundamentals during a few practice days. Barrett Donahoe, newly-hired head coach at Marshall Academy, will run his Patriots through spring practice starting this week. No spring game is scheduled. “I
think spring training will be very valuable,” Donahoe said in an
interview shortly after his hiring. “I will be able to evaluate what we
have – as far as skills and attitude-wise. It will let them get to know
me better and I can also get to know them. That way we will be ready to
roll when August comes around.” |
