Marshall meets Hillcrest
By BARRY BURLESON
The Marshall Academy Patriots enter the Class AA State Baseball Playoffs this week.
The Patriots, who received a bye in the first round, will face Hillcrest Christian in a best two-of-three series. The Cougars eliminated Manchester Academy last week.
Game one of the MA-Hillcrest series was set for 5 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting, at Marshall. Rain and thunderstorms were in the forecast.
Games two and three (if needed) are scheduled Thursday starting at 4 p.m. at Hillcrest.
If Tuesday’s game was rained out, coach Bart Jenkins of Marshall said most likely game one would be played in Holly Springs Thursday at 4 p.m. with games two and three (if needed) at Hillcrest Friday starting at 4 p.m.
“Hillcrest is a solid team – very well coached,” Jenkins said. “They do a great job of producing runs.”
The Patriots, District 1-AA champions, go into the playoffs with a 22-10 record.
The winner of the Marshall-Hillcrest series will face the Carroll Academy-Simpson Academy survivor in the state semi-finals next week.
