Lady Cards beat West Union • State playoffs this week Tuesday
afternoon of last week the West Union Lady Eagles came to Potts Camp
for the final division of the season for both teams. Potts Camp was entering this game with one division loss and West Union was undefeated in division games. The game started at 5 p.m. with both teams ready to take care of business. The Lady Cardinals were up 1-0 going into the fifth inning. With
West Union up to bat, the first batter got a base hit and was able to
score. It was 1-1. The Cardinals were unable to score in the fifth. In the sixth inning, the Lady Cardinals and West Union Lady Eagles scored. It was 2-2. With
the game going into the final innings, the tension was high. The Lady
Cardinals, coach Michael Loden and the Potts Camp fans greatly wanted
this win. The Lady Eagles were unable to score in the seventh inning. It was time for the Lady Cardinals to make their move. With
one out and Kayla Yarbrough on base, Hayley Davis came up to the plate
and got a hit over the short stop’s head, bringing Yarbrough home.
Davis’ hit had won the game for Potts Camp. The final score was 3-2. Both
teams advance to the state playoffs beginning Friday and Saturday.
West Union will be going in as the first place team in the district and
Potts Camp second. Pitching for the Potts Camp Lady Cardinals was Yarbrough, Catching was Megan Watkins. Yarbrough
finished the game with eight strikeouts. Scoring for Potts Camp were
Macy Watkins (1), Taylor Childress (1) and Yarbrough (1). The Lady Cardinals will play their first playoff game Thursday afternoon at 5 at Potts Camp versus Wheeler.  | Photo by Ronnie Day
