Cardinals down Lions
By BARRY BURLESON
The Potts Camp baseball team closed its season April 19 with an 8-1 win over county rival H.W. Byers on “Senior Night.”
“It’s nice to go out with a win, but this year was the season of what might have been,” coach Justin Weeden said.
“We had the team to compete in the playoffs, but in the end we just didn’t make the plays down the stretch.”
The Cardinals will lose four seniors – Cody Watts, Josh Hailey, Miles Moore and Aziz Johnson.
“Cody is one of those guys who you just don’t how you’re going to replace in the coming year,” Weeden said. “His pitching and senior leadership will be missed.”
He expects good things next year as the squad only loses two starters.
“We have a lot to look forward to,” Weeden said. “We have a solid core of players returning.”
Potts Camp will step up to Class 2A next year and compete in a tough division with the likes of Bruce and Calhoun City.
