take second in district

The
Marshall Academy Patriots finished second in the District 1-AA Track
Meet Saturday at Lee Academy in Clarksdale.
Marshall
earned 71 points and trailed first-place Indianola Academy, which
totaled 97. West Memphis Christian School was third with 49.

Lady Cardinals
advance to state softball playoffs
On
Tuesday afternoon, April 5, the Potts Camp Lady Cardinals softball team
hosted a division game against the Ingomar Falcons.
The
Lady Cardinals scored first with a run in the bottom of the second
inning. The Lady Falcons were still down as the Lady Cardinals
scored
two more runs in the bottom of the third and another in the fourth.

Killer Kudzu
run slated for May 6 in Holly Springs
The
annual Killer Kudzu 5K is set for Friday, May 6, in downtown Holly
Springs.
The
run, which benefits the American Cancer Society’s Relay for
Life, starts at 7 p.m.
The
Killer Kudzu winds through historic Holly Springs.
The
challenging course begins downtown on the courtsquare and takes runners
past sweeping antebellum homes, towering native woods, graveyards
dating back two centuries, and, of course, Kudzu.

Jones signs with Northwest
Kenyatta
Jones, a senior at Byhalia High School, is shown signing a basketball
scholarship April 14 with Northwest Community College in Senatobia.
Jones averaged 29 points, five rebounds and five assists for the
Indians this past season. “He’s the best scorer I’ve ever coached,”
said coach Donald Bryant of BHS. “The sky’s the limit for him. With
hard work on the court and in the classroom, he has a shot at the NBA.”

Culp
inks with Southwest

High School senior linebacker Terrico Culp is pictured signing a
scholarship last Thursday with Southwest Mississippi Community College
in Summit. “I’ve worked hard for this,”
Culp said, “and I’m very excited.” He has
been playing football since the eighth grade and was one of the
Indians’ top tacklers during his varsity career. He also
played some offense, at fullback. Seated with the standout athlete are

Malone
going to ICC

High School senior Pat Malone is pictured signing a football
scholarship last Thursday with Itawamba Community College in Fulton.
The talented athlete also plans to play baseball at ICC. He is joined
by his mother Evelyn Malone (seated, left) and his father Greg Malone

Washington, head baseball coach Bubba Brown, assistant principal Summer
Pannell and assistant principal William Oliver. Malone was a four-year
starter at Byhalia, playing several positions. He racked up big-time
stats receiving, running and passing. He also plays catcher for the
baseball team. “Pat Malone is an amazing young
man,” Coach Washington said. “He is one of the best
athletes I have ever coached.”

teams third

Camp track teams have tuned up for this week’s division meet
by competing recently in Oxford and Pontotoc.
At
Oxford, coach Karen Green said her Class 1A Cardinals and Lady
Cardinals competed against much larger 5A and 6A schools.
