Allen, 93, of Slayden, died April 5, 2011, at Alliance HealthCare. She
was a member of Slayden Baptist Church and a “Rosie Riveter” during
World War II. Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 7 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Slayden Cemetery. She
leaves her husband of 69 years, Earl W. Allen; a daughter, Renee Tice
(David) of Slayden; two grandchildren, Samantha Morris of Holly
Springs, Bubba Tice (Rhonda) of Michigan City and four
great-grandchildren, Wood Morris, Samuel Morris, Hunter Tice and Austin

Reid Carpenter Sr., 86, of Slayden, died April 17, 2011, at Baptist
Collierville Hospital in Collierville, Tenn. He was the widower of
Hazel Valentine Carpenter and a farmer. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on April 19 at Slayden Baptist Church, where he
was a member. Burial was in Slayden Cemetery. Bro. Armond Taylor
officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He
leaves three sons, James R. Carpenter, George W. Carpenter, Howard R.
Carpenter Jr., all of Slayden; two daughters, Michelle Allen, Vicki

Tenn.; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lula Nunnally; and a sister, Henrietta Griffin. Roy Phillip Powell

member of Sunrise #166 Order of Eastern Star and a retired factory and

Cardie Harper, Mammie D. Thompson; brother, Clarence Thompson; and
son-in-law, Elmer Jamerson. Raymond Daniel Smith Raymond
Daniel Smith, 63, of Byhalia, died April 3, 2011 at Baptist DeSoto
Hospital in Southaven. He was a Christian, a retired business owner of
an auto repair shop and an Army veteran. Services
were held at 2 p.m. on April 6 at Watson Community Church. Burial was
