The
town of Byhalia was recognized recently by the Mississippi Alcohol
Safety Education Program for its compliance with court reporting of
DUIs and blood alcohol concentrations for 2010. It was announced at a Municipal Court Clerks’ seminar in Jackson. The
Byhalia court was one of 43 municipal courts reporting at least 25 DUI
convictions in 2010 with at least 90 percent completion of BAC

Police probe murder By SUE WATSON Staff Writer A man was murdered on a downtown street early Thursday morning. Anthony Darrell Phillips, 39, of Chicago, Ill., was shot in the face, according to Holly Springs Police Chief Robert Pearson. Full Story

Chamber, Main Street, Tourism seek ‘new life’ for old Powerhouse By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Rebecca
Bourgeois and Stephanie McKinney visited the board of aldermen and
mayor April 5 to propose work on restoring the old Powerhouse downtown
on Falconer Street. Bourgeois is executive
director of both the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce and Main Street.
McKinney is executive director of the Tourism Bureau. Holly Springs
Main Street can seek funds because it is a non-profit organization,

Selman remembered By SUE WATSON Staff Writer A group of about 500 people paid tribute to the life of Patricia Ann Davis Selman at funeral ceremonies Saturday. Selman,
who died Tuesday, April 12, after a long illness, was assistant police
chief for the city of Holly Springs. She had worked in law enforcement
23 years. Members of her large family, her church
family (Christ Temple COGIC, its choir and several pastors), officers
with her law enforcement families, firefighters, members of the courts,
and friends and neighbors enjoyed a long homecoming celebration for

Traffic light not soon By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
subject of when a traffic light will be installed on Highway 7 South at
KFC was recently discussed by the Holly Springs Board of Aldermen and
mayor. Alderman Garrie Colhoun quipped that he
has tried to get the traffic light at that location since his first
year in office 20 years ago. Full Story

home and work. They discussed new LED directional bulb and other
energy-saving bulbs. Those who filled out an energy audit of their home
were given a kit including two energy-saving light bulbs. Presley said
the energy audit would provide data to show how much energy savings
could be enjoyed. “We are committed to saving 3.5 percent of overall
