OpinionFielder’s Choice Surprising 5K winner It was simply a beautiful weekend. Friday morning, I walked extra copies of The South Reporter’s Pilgrimage edition to the Marshall County Library for distribution. Volunteers were going over last-minute preparations for the arrival of guests. Close to Nowhere A good cop I’m not sure how Barry gets his column done or where he gets his ideas (OK, this week’s column I do). My ideas often come straight from outer space. Then, I mull them over a while and generally at 4ish on Tuesday afternoon -- the last minutes of our deadline, I put pen to paper and hopefully what I’ve been mulling over comes out coherently. When I arrived at work this morning, I had a couple ideas puddling around in my brain. They all drained away when Barry, the newspaper editor, came in and said that Patricia Selman had lost her fight with cancer early this morning. President Obama’s reversal on Guantanamo is right decision U.S. Senator An important story from our ongoing war on terror has received little attention. Last week, Attorney General Eric Holder announced the self-confessed mastermind of the September 11 attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and four other terrorists would be tried in military tribunals rather than in civilian court. This welcome news reversed President Obama’s stated plan to bring these dangerous murderers into the U.S. for trial. Letters To The Editor Defending pit bulls In last week’s issue (April 7, 2011) of The South Reporter I read yet another complaint about pit bull attacks. We hear on the news and read in the papers frequently about attacks on people and other animals by pit bulls. Hometown Heroes Please take time to remember our local “heroes” who are serving in war zones around the world. Welcome home John Snow -- after four tours of duty Immanuel Betts, Marines, 2nd tour, Afghanistan Supporting Our Troops If you’d like to add a name to this list, please contact The South Reporter, Attn.
