The
Byers Lions got their share of hits Friday in their tilt with the
Cardinals of Potts Camp but they were not enough to turn back the
visitors. Corderrious Stone was first on the
hill for the Lions and he held things down in the top of the first
inning. Two pop-ups and his third bagger killed the runner trying for
home with a throw to the plate. Full Story
Marshall selects football coach By BARRY BURLESON Editor Barrett Donahoe wants to keep a good thing going. He
was recently named the new head football coach at Marshall Academy. He
will replace Keith Wicker, who retired after taking the Patriots to the
state playoffs in all four of his seasons at the helm. Full Story
Patriots take three from West Memphis By BARRY BURLESON Editor A District 1-AA championship is within the grasp of the Marshall Academy. The
Patriots, who swept West Memphis Christian (Ark.) last week, face Kirk
Academy next in their final three-game district series of the season.
MA enters this week’s competition at 7-2 in the district and 14-8

Behind The Scoreboard By Claude Vinson Fantastic Final Four OK, I’ll be the first to say it, “The Butler did it.” Well, actually the Butler Bulldogs did it. They
have come into their own within the last three years. In the previous
season they were virtually a giant-killing force. In the current season
they teamed with another to systematically eliminate some of the
biggest contenders. As is always the case in a shootout when you have
two fast guns, it is almost inevitable that sooner or later they are

win first

Academy hosted its second track meet of the season March 30 with the
varsity boys taking third place and the junior high girls first.
The
Patriots’ 48 points trailed first-place Walnut with 66 and
second-place Tupelo Christian Preparatory School with 50. Full Story
Lady Cards split games The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals played in Tupelo Friday night, March 25. The
first game was against Booneville. The Lady Cardinals started well,
scoring in the first inning, but they were unable to pull off a win.
They fell 4-3 to the bigger school. Full Story
New schedule in place for MA football squad By BARRY BURLESON Editor Marshall Academy fans will see some schedule changes in coach Barrett Donahoe’s first season. The
Mississippi Association of Independent Schools, after realignment of
its schools for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 athletic seasons, released the
slates last week. New opponents for Marshall include Immanuel
Christian, Lee Academy (Clarksdale), Carroll Academy, Pillow Academy
and Potts Camp. Full Story
Golf tourney will benefit youth missions There
will be a golf tournament Saturday, April 16, to benefit the Summer
Youth Missions Programs of First Baptist Church, Holly Springs. The four-person scramble will begin at 10 a.m. at Kirkwood. Cost is $55 per person. Call the church office, 252-2627, to sign up.
