New schedule in place for MA football squad By BARRY BURLESON Editor Marshall Academy fans will see some schedule changes in coach Barrett Donahoe’s first season. The
Mississippi Association of Independent Schools, after realignment of
its schools for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 athletic seasons, released the
slates last week. New opponents for Marshall include Immanuel
Christian, Lee Academy (Clarksdale), Carroll Academy, Pillow Academy
and Potts Camp. Fellow members of District 1-AA are Carroll, Indianola Academy, North Delta and Kirk Academy. “The schedule is very challenging,” Coach Donahoe said. “I’m excited about it.” MA opens August 19 at Magnolia Heights. “I’ve heard about that rivalry,” he said. “I know Magnolia Heights is a tough place to go and win a football game.” Three
more non-conference games follow – Tunica August 26 at home, Immanuel
September 2 away and Lee September 9 at home. Three straight district
games are next – September 16 at home versus Carroll, September 23 at
home versus Indianola and September 30 at North Delta. “We
want to to be 100 percent prepared and moving forward by the time those
conference games arrive,” Donahoe said. “That will be the key to our
success.” MA hosts Pillow October 7. There will
be an open date October 14. The regular season ends with trips to
neighboring Potts Camp, a Class 2A public school next school year which
will play an independent schedule, and district rival Kirk. |
