Deputies respond to apparent suicide
By SUE WATSON
A Lamar man is thought to have committed suicide by hanging Monday night, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson.
He said dispatch received a call around 10:30 p.m. to 1632 Roberts Chapel Road in the Lamar community in response to a possible suicide by hanging.
“Upon arrival our officers observed the subject already taken down from a rope in a utility shed behind his residence,” Dickerson said. “Medical personnel arrived shortly after our officers and were unable to revive him.”
The person was later identified as Cortney D. Harris, 32, of the above address.
“His wife stated she had tried to make contact for several minutes via cell phone,” Dickerson said, “but was unsuccessful.”
Harris was then found by his younger sons and his wife, the sheriff said.
