Charlie Calvin Spears
Charlie Calvin Spears,
83, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Marshall County, died March 10,
2011. He was the widower of Armenta Phillips Spears. He joined
Chulahoma MB Church at an early age and later St. Paul MB Church. He
served on the deacon board, usher board and male chorus of his church.
He was a retired member of the Board of Education, Sifton Acoustic,
DuPont and a licensed carpenter.
Services were
held at 11 a.m. on March 19 at King Solomon MB Church, Memphis, Tenn.,
where he was a member. Dr. Van Ford Jr., pastor, officiated. Burial was
in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hacks Cross Road. M.J. Edwards Funeral Home,
Memphis, was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves
nine children, Patricia Durden (Ishmal), Charlie Mae Lewis, Billy
Spears (Melonie) of Memphis, Tenn., Bobby Spears (Maude), Gene Earl
Hardin (Arlene), and Rose Clayton (Jerry), all of Byhalia, Linda
Spears-Hudson of Southaven, Joann Moore of Nashville, Tenn., and
Phyllis Jones (Lonnie) of Holly Springs; two brothers, Flynn Spears
(Ether) of Boulder, Colo., Richard Spears of Cleveland, Ohio; three
sisters, Brownie King of Memphis, Polly Askew (D.L.) of Cleveland,
Bonnie Okhtav of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 25 grandchildren, 29
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a special
companion, Josephine Garner of Memphis.
Pallbearers
were grandsons Anthony Durden, Jarvis Spears, Larondo Spears, Desmond
Spears, Rashad Spears, Trevor Clayton and Rory Spears. Honorary
pallbearers were sons and sons-in-law Bobby Spears, Billy Spears, Gene
Earl Harden, Ishmal Durden, Jerry Clayton Jr. and Lonnie Jones.
Clem Jones
Clem
Jones, 94, of Holly Springs, died March 25, 2011, at Alliance
HealthCare System. He was the widower of Annie Mae Hughes Jones. He was
a member of the Masonic Lodge and a retired farmer.
Services
were held at 11 a.m. on April 2 at Isom Chapel CME Church in Holly
Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev.
Joe T. Lester officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
He leaves two sons,
Chester Jones, Christopher Jones, both of Memphis, Tenn.; 10 daughters,
Mae Lean Brooks, Minnie Luellen, Annie Walker, Jessie Davis, Jimmie
Hughes, all of Memphis, Elizabeth Nabors of Cordova, Tenn., Alean
Gatewood, Jeanette Isom, Aunette Tucker, Gloria Washington, all of
Holly Springs; three sisters, Lucille Coleman, Lorine Cheairs, both of
Chicago, Ill., Bertha Patrick of Memphis; two brothers, Fred Jones of
Memphis, Phillip Jones Jr. of Holly Springs; 50 grandchildren, 70
great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four
children, Columbus Jones, Willie Melvin Jones, Paulette Mays and Mary
Perry.
Pallbearers
were Dexter Luellen, Marcus Tucker, Cedric Gatewood, Ronny Brooks,
Jason Blake, Warren Jones, Jerome Garrison and Jamison Kizer.
Carey Pearl Kelly
Carey Pearl Kelly, 69, of Mt.
Pleasant, died March 22, 2011, at her home. She was a member of Carey
Chapel Baptist Church.
Services
were held at 10 a.m. on March 24 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Carey Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Matt Hess and Bro. Faron Ash
officiated.
She leaves her husband, Tony N.
Kelly; her son, Benny Wayne Kelly of Mt. Pleasant; her daughter,
Beverly McMullen of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Myrtis Hunsucker of Mt.
Pleasant, Martha Cantin of Hickory Flat; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
brothers Benny Smith, James Willie Smith and Earl Smith.

Jessie Pipkin Stanton
Jessie
Pipkin Stanton, 88, of Potts Camp, died March 26, 2011, in New Albany.
She was the widow of C.R. Pipkin and David Stanton. She was a member of
Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ and owner of a grocery store
and a pawn shop.
Services were held at 11 a.m.
on March 28 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in
Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ Cemetery. Bro. Steve Wilson,
Bro. Bob Pugh and Bro. Ralph Pipkin officiated.
She
leaves two daughters, Carol Jean Davis of Potts Camp, Deborah Hunnicutt
(Randy) of New Albany; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and
two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a
son, James Carl Pipkin.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.
