Marshall varsity boys, jr. high girls take first By BARRY BURLESON
It was a successful first track meet of the season Wednesday, March 23, for Marshall Academy athletes. The Patriots tied public school Walnut for first-place in varsity boys. And the junior high Lady Patriots won the championship by 18 points over their nearest competitor. Varsity boys The host Patriots and Wildcats totaled 66 points each. Tunica Academy was third with 53. Top individual finishers for Marshall follow. • Shotput – John Tomlinson, first, 41-1.5; Kirby Jones, third, 37-8.5. • Long jump – Joey Brock, second, 19-1.75; Kevin Fitzpatrick, third, 19. • Triple jump – Jordan Brock, first, 38-2; Andy Burleson, fourth, 34-11. • High jump – Neil Murphy, first, 5-2; Chase Smith, second, 4-11. • 200m dash – Elgin Lafever, second, 23.70. • 800m run – Neil Murphy, fourth, 2:27.96. • 400m dash – Chase Smith, fourth, 57.83. • 100m dash – Elgin Lafever, second, 11.05. • 110m hurdles – Andy Burleson, second, 19.42. • 400m relay – Jake Delashmit, Joey Brock, Jordan Brock, Elgin Lafever, first, 45.69. • 800m relay – Jake Delashmit, Joey Brock, Jordan Brock, Elgin Lafever, 1:35.13. • 300m hurdles – Andy Burleson, second, 47.24.
Varsity girls The junior high Lady Patriots totaled 60 points. Tunica was second with 42 points and West Memphis Christian third with 41. Top individual finishers for Marshall follow. • High jump – Elizabeth Skelton, first, 4-3. • Shotput – Codi Robertson, fifth. • Long jump – Kat Moore, second; Megan Anderson, fifth. • Discus – Erika Sweet, third. • 300m hurdles – Wesleyann Ray, first, 54:34. • 800m relay – Liz Walko, Kat Moore, Elizabeth Skelton, Wesleyann Ray, first, 2:03.03. • 400 meter relay – Liza Walko, Kat Moore, Elizabeth Skelton, Wesleyann Ray, fist, 58:43. • 100m hurdles – Wesleyann Ray, first 18.85. • 100m dash – Elizabeth Skelton, fourth. • 1600m run – Erika Sweet, fifth. • 800m run – Kara Novarese, first, 2:53.84. • 200m dash – Liza Walko, first, 29.41. • 1600m relay – Liz Walko, Kat Moore, Kara Novarese, Wesleyann Ray, 5:08.80. Varsity girls Lori Simpson won two second-place ribbons for Marshall Academy in the 100 meter hurdles (18.02) and the 100 meter dash (12.82).
