The Potts Camp fastpitch softball team had its first games of the season March 19. The Lady Cardinals ended their spring break by traveling to Booneville and playing in a one-day tournament. The first game was against Belmont. The Lady Cardinals fell prey to the Belmont Cardinals 9-1. Potts Camp scored in the first inning and was unable to score anymore. The
second game was versus Baldwyn. The Lady Cardinals kept the Lady
Bearcats from scoring in the first and second innings. The Lady
Cardinals were first to score in the second. Baldwyn came back scoring
three runs in the third inning and two in the fifth. Baldwyn won 5-1.
The final game for the day was against
Biggerville. the game went six innings. The Lady Cardinals scored in
the first, second and fifth innings and knocked off Biggersville 3-2. On
Tuesday of last week the Myrtle Eagles came to “Cardinal Country.” This

Hayley
and Shelby Davis were the scorers for the Lady Cardinals. Kayla
Yarbrough pitched for the Lady Cardinals, recording nine strikeouts. Pitching for the Myrtle Eagles was Audrey Kent. She had five strikeouts. The
Potts Camp Lady Cardinals then traveled to H.W. Byers for a
doubleheader Thursday night. The Lady Cards arrived ready to play
softball after their win two days earlier against Myrtle. The first game of the night was over by the fourth inning with Potts Camp 15 and Byers 0. The
Lady Lions just could not get the bats going in their favor. Kayla
Yarbrough pitched the first three innings with Alaken McNeer finishing
up the game. Shelby Davis was the catcher for the night. The
second game began after the sun went down. The night was very cold,
and both schools’ fans were trying to stay warm. The temperature didn’t
seem to bother either team. Pitching for the Lady Cardinals was
McNeer, with Yarbrough catching. The Lady cardinals were able to claim
another win by a 16-2 final over the Lady Lions. The Lady Cardinals traveled to Tupelo to play in a tournament Friday night and Saturaday (of last week). |
