There was no spring break for the Marshall Academy baseball team. Instead, the Patriots collided with some top-notch public school competition in the Oxford Tournament. A
scheduled game versus Horn Lake on Monday of last week was rained out.

State champions honored
The
Marshall County School District Board of Trustees recognized the H.W.
Byers Lady Lions, Class 1A state basketball champions, during its
monthly meeting Tuesday, March 8, at Galena School. The Byers girls
beat Coldwater 48-43 on March 3 at Mississippi Coliseum for the state
title, their third in four years. Coach Jason Thompson’s team finished
the season with a 29-8 record. |

Championship rodeo April 2 A Deep South Championship Rodeo will be held in Barton on Saturday, April 2. Registration set for Saturday The Holly
Springs Parks and Recreation Department is registering youth who want
to participate in baseball and softball, ages 3-16. Registration
will be held this Saturday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Sam
Coopwood Park concession stand. The entry fee is $30 per child. Holly
Springs youth softball and baseball teams play in the Marshall County
Dizzy Dean league with teams from Byhalia and Potts Camp. Practice will begin soon after registration is complete. For more information on registration or on the baseball and softball leagues, call 662-252-4807.
Golf tournament April 16 There will be a golf
tournament Saturday, April 16, to benefit the Summer Youth Missions
Programs of First Baptist Church, Holly Springs. The four-person scramble will begin at 10 a.m. at Kirkwood. Cost is $55 per person. Call the church office, 252-2627, to sign up. Hole sponsorship deadline is April 1.
Softball tourney to be held in memory of Carol Scruggs The
first annual Carol “Sweetie” Hampton-Scruggs Memorial Softball
Tournament will be held Saturday, April 2 at Sam Coopwood Park
(Stadium) in Holly Springs. Gates open at 10:30 a.m.; games start at 11
a.m. until (Make-up date, April 16.) Admission is free. There will be a
