2011: Marshall County Faces and Places By SUE
WATSON Willie Flemon was born the son of a sharecropper but much of his life has pointed toward helping others and public service. He served as constable 12 years, and he is in his 16th year as a Marshall County supervisor. Flemon was born in Lafayette County west of Abbeville, the son of the late Willie and Myrtle Flemon. WATSON With an extra cold winter, some customers of the Northcentral Electric Power Association have complained about high electricity bills in recent months.
Town of Byhalia announces cleanup Keep Mississippi Beautiful and the Mississippi Department of Transportation have asked Byhalia to participate in the Great American Cleanup of Mississippi. Town leaders have designated the month of April to conduct a cleanup and beautify Byhalia. Everyone’s help is needed in this effort. Anyone interested in volunteering, please contact town hall at 662-838- 2135. The Great American Cleanup (GAP) is Keep America Beautiful’s signature event that involves millions of volunteers nationally to improve the quality of life in communities across America. The GAC is the nation’s largest community improvement program.
City police respond to burglaries Holly Springs police officers responded to 85 calls for the week, according to chief Robert Pearson. Byhalia police officers go to 21 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 21 calls during the past week. Chief Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 1; miscellaneous, 8; escorts, 1; juveniles, 1; disturbances, 2; fires, 4; medical, 4. Byhalia police officers also made eight arrests during the past week.
