Election Aug. 2; 55 seek offices By BARRY BURLESON Fifty-five candidates are in the running for Marshall County positions. Qualifying deadline was March 1. The primary election is Tuesday, Aug. 2. The runoff election is Tuesday, Aug. 23. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 8. The entire Marshall County candidate list follows. Chancery clerk - Monet Bell Autry and C.W. (Chuck) Thomas (incumbent). Circuit clerk - Cathy Elliott Brittenum, Lucy Carpenter (incumbent) and Brenda Kaye Wilson Rogers. Coroner - James Richard Anderson (incumbent), Billy Ray Autry and Gary Wayne Teel. County attorney - Shirley Byers (incumbent) and Amery Ewing Moore. Sheriff - Don Cothern, Kenny Dickerson (incumbent) and Dwight L. Harris. Superintendent of education - Felicia Anderson Harvell, Michael E. (Mike) Hamblin, Jerry Moore and Marketta Liggins Steward. Tax assessor - Clista Ash and Juanita M. Dillard (incumbent). Tax collector - Joyce Ford Brown and Betty Byrd (incumbent). Constable, North - Leon Cothern, Johnny Fitch (incumbent), Christopher Sisk, Billy Smith and James Stinson. Constable, South - Carlisle Buford, Jesse Johnson, Antjuan Lester, Kenneth McMullen, Mike Owens, Bill Rowland, Johnnie Smith and Bobby Watson. Justice Court judge, North - Eugene Brown (incumbent), Derwin Cobb, O.R. (Scooter) Dempsey and Mae Garrison. Justice Court judge, South - Ernest Cunningham. Supervisor, District 1 - Conery DeBerry, Oscar Lee Fant, James E. Isom and Charles Terry. Supervisor, District 2 - Winfred Allen, Eddie Dixon (incumbent) and Kebin Mitchell. Supervisor, District 3 - Annie Moffitt, Terry Rodgers and Keith Taylor (incumbent). Supervisor, District 4 - LeeRoy A. Holmes and George Zinn III (incumbent). Supervisor, District 5 - Clay Byers, Ronnie Joe Bennett (incumbent), Evelyn Curry Elliott and Steve Wilson. Fifty-four of the candidates are running as Democrats. The lone Republican candidate on the list is Rodgers in the District 3 supervisor race. |
